The Cost of Discipleship
Presenter: Matt Scott
The Cost of Discipleship, Dietrich Bonhoeffer's most widely read book begins, "Cheap grace is the mortal enemy of our church. Our struggle today is for costly grace." That was a sharp warning to his own church, which was engaged in bitter conflict with the official nazified state church, The book was first published in 1937. It soon became a classic exposition of what it means to follow Christ in a modern world beset by danger and fear. Come join us in a five week in-depth study of the center of Bonhoeffer’s interpretation of what Jesus demanded of his followers—and how the life of discipleship is to be continued in today seventy years later and in all ages of the post- resurrection church.

Sunday, March 4, 11, 18
Jesus
A CBS Mini-Series
This is a repeat of a film shown during Lent last year. If you have not yet seen it, consider this unique telling of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus as part of your Lenten devotional. Imagine Jesus working along side his father, Joseph, in their carpenter shop; traveling to visit friends; facing the death of his earthly father. This presentation gives us the human side of Jesus.

Faith Stepping Stones for Parents of 8 th Graders
Facilitators: Lois Nelson and Donna Schroeter
This three-week session includes discussions on the challenges of parenting a teenager in the secular world and will include issues of dating, setting boundaries, driving, and making good choices. Preparations for the Affirmation of Baptism on June 3 will be included in the sessions, as well as time for parents to look at their student’s ABC binders. There will be time to also talk about how to prepare your child for high school, as well as discussions on ways that parents can model for their children how to make the faith journey a continuing part of everyday life.

DURING THE WEEK:
TUESDAY MORNING MEN: Have you ever dropped the ball? If you think you are the only one who has trouble always doing the right thing, you are in good company. Prominent characters in the Bible did not always live up to the highest standards. Such familiar names as Saul, David and Solomon, to name just three, often found themselves outside the will of God. The good news for us is we are forgiven. Please join Tuesday Morning Men at 6:30 AM in Saint Andrew’s library during Lent as we look at the book Misbehavin’ Monarchs about Biblical kings of questionable character by Barbara J. Essex.

TUESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY meetsfrom 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the Conference Room. "To the Church in Bellevue...from Paul."  What a treasure such a letter would be to the people of God in this community.  Guess what?  We have many letters meant just for us! Corinth was a city where Paul had planted a Christian community.  There had been faithful beginnings, but troubles seemed to be taking the congregation away from their Gospel-centered life together. As Paul heard of these problems, he wrote to encourage them to strive for the unity of the Church and to restore a sense of order in the church. This topic will likely last 12 weeks, depending on our pace and the Holy Spirit.  Pastor McEachran leads this class.

HANNAH’S HANDS will be studying the book, BLESSED IS SHE: Living Lent with Mary “Everyone is happy to see Mary in the crèche at Christmastime, but after Epiphany, Christians of many traditions are often ready to place Mary to the side too.” Author Tim Perry specializes in the history of Mary the Mother of Jesus and developing the Marian doctrine for Protestants. Women of all ages are invited to join our Hannah’s Hands group at 9:45 a.m. on Thursdaysthrough April 5in the Conference Room to look at these spiritual reflections that reveal a Lenten Mary who teaches the meaning of discipleship. We will follow Mary’s life during each week of Lent. Don’t miss this opportunity to walk with Mary from the annunciation to the cross and beyond. Childcare is provided.
